No killing has been reported in the past three months, Taita Taveta Ranchers Association coordinator Donald Mombo told the Star on the phone yesterday. Kenya and the Tanzania National Parks Authority have increased surveillance across the border, said Robert Obrein, Tsavo conservation assistant director. “The last gunshot was heard four months ago in Tsavo West, and we tracked the poachers to Tanzania in collaboration with Tanapa,” he said. Obrien praised the ranchers and county government for carrying out a census of all legal herders in the ranches. “Whenever new people enter the ranches, we easily identify them because they do not have identity badges from the county government.
