Kudos to Rick Miramontez, President of O&M Co. (public relations firm) for deciding to shun theatre reviewer Joanne Kaufman. Kaufman recently bragged in a Wall Street Journal article that shes been accepting free tickets to Broadway shows for years in return for reviews, but often doesnt bother to watch more than half of the comped performances. Miramontez is one of the PR types whos been providing Kaufman with those free tickets. What types of trash theatre (thats sarcasm, folks) does Kaufman boast that shes walked out on? Shows like KINKY BOOTS, PIPPIN, BILLY ELLIOT, MATILDA and many, many more. Is it morally wrong for a reviewer to accept thousands (perhaps tens of thousands) of dollars in free tickets to shows that they dont see to completion? I agree that it is. If Kaufman finds watching theatre to be such a hardship, she should get a new job.
