Kuguta nyemba Unemployed polygamous man hangs self A POLYGAMIST from Bulawayo’s Nguboyenja suburb hanged himself and the motive is yet to be established. The man, Brighton Nyathi, 28, was found hanging at his lodgings at Sotshangane flats by his junior wife’s sister at around 5PM on Wednesday. Police confirmed the incident. A neighbour said Nyathi’s two wives were not present at the time of his death. The neighbour said the late Nyathi’s first wife stays in Lupane while the second wife is at How Mine. It is said Nyathi was having domestic issues with his second wife and was contemplating recalling his first wife whom he had sent to their rural home. A neighbour, Janet Chigwe who was among the first people to arrive at the scene told Chronicle that she had seen Nyathi a few hours before he took his life. She said the now deceased did not appear like a person with problems. “I last saw him in the morning. When he woke up, he played music up to about 10AM. I was then alarmed when I heard a woman screaming prompting me to go and investigate,” said Chigwe. She said they were baffled to see Nyathi’s body hanging from the roof. “He left a suicide note which also had his relatives’ contacts. His wives were a problem and they would chide each other and report one another to him. I think this is what stressed him a lot,” said Chigwe. Neighbours suspected that Nyathi was pushed to the limit by his two wives and did not know what to do with them. They said they believed Nyathi was facing financial challenges. “He used to work for a Chinese shop in town but was fired. This could be one of the reasons why he decided to take his life as he could not manage his two wives,” said one of the neighbours who declined to be named. Neighbours said police from Nguboyenja attended the scene and collected the body at about midnight. Nyathi’s younger brother identified as William declined to comment. He, however, said mourners were yet to gather as most of their relatives were yet to come to Bulawayo. Nyathi is survived by his two wives and two boys aged four. Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed Nyathi’s death. He said: “I can confirm that we received a report of a man who committed suicide and the matter is still under investigation. We encourage people to seek assistance from third parties like pastors, Msasa project and other counsellors when they have problems.”
