Kumasi: Traders stage naked demonstration. Some women affected by the latest fire outbreak at the Kumasi Central Market in the Ashanti region have staged a naked demonstration in the regional capital. The women are protesting the decision by authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, to reconstruct the market for them. The Sunday morning fire razed dozens of shops, destroying properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis. According to Luv News’ Erastus Asare Donkor, the traders insist they must be allowed to reconstruct the burnt market themselves. He said the police were “helpless” as the women go naked in front of the cameras. The stripping happened in the presence of the two fire investigators who are in the country from America to assist the Government of Ghana to unravel the mystery behind recent market fires. One of the protesters said they have lived at the place for decades and are in better position to put up their own structures. A male trader said they have no problem if government chooses to build the Kumasi Central Market except their portion which got burnt on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Mayor of KMA Kojo Bonsu who toured the burnt site said they will, at the appropriate time, make public how government is going to implement the various recommendations on how to curtail these fire outbreaks. The two investigators have engaged the victims and the watchman of the market; they have also picked sample of ashes from the site to assist their investigations. The watchman led the investigators to a particular place he claimed he heard a sound which was followed by a thick smoke.
