Kurseong traffic bandh enters third day Kurseong, 4 May: The ongoing row over the new traffic system in Kurseong town could see an end if the administration and the drivers’ association finalise things in a meeting tomorrow. The transporters have finally decided to sit for talks at the Kurseong Sub Divisional Officer’s chamber, even as the transport strike in and around Kurseong entered the third consecutive day today. A member of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), Yogendra Rai, and the Janmukti Chalak Mahasangh president, Tilak Gurung, this evening met Kurseong SDO, U Swaroop, at his residence and discussed the matter. The inspector in charge of the Kurseong police station and the Kurseong traffic police officer-in-charge were also present in the meeting. After the meeting, the SDO said the administration has suggested a ‘parking place’ for the different vehicles, including private and emergency vehicles, at few points in town. The administration also agreed on some points to allow parking for some vehicles at different points. However, further discussions will be held tomorrow and things finalized then, according to the SDO. “The outcome of tomorrow’s meeting will decide on the future programmes of the Janmukti Chalak Mahasangh,” GTA member, Mr Rai, said. The Janmukti Chalak Mahasangh also held a meeting this afternoon in Kurseong with GTA members, the Kurseong MLA and others concerned. In the meeting, Mr Gurung said that they would sit for talks with the administration only if the Kurseong SDO invites them officially. Protesting the new traffic system that came into effect on 2 May, the Janmukti Chalak Mahasangh had called an indefinite transportation bandh in Kurseong. As per the Mahasangh, the new traffic rule is not passenger and driver-friendly. It had also alleged that the new system was unilaterally implemented by the SDO.However, the SDO denied such allegations and said the new rules were okayed after he took consent of all the different representatives and motor syndicates.
