Kurši (Lithuanian: Kuršių) is one of the ancient Baltic people, who later established the Latvian nation. They lived in Courland - Kurzeme (Latvija) and at the territory of present northwest of Lithuania, where they gradually merged with Samogitian. Ancient and Middle Ages Kurši were known as brave soldiers who were involved in many wars and alliances with the Swedish, Danish and Icelandic Vikings. They were one of the last white people tribes who adopted Christianity. Popularly pagan rituals took place until the 19th century.
