Kwankwaso to Jonathan: You’re not qualified to contest in 2015. This amounts to a third term. BY SONI DANIEL As President Goodluck Jonathan prepares for his re-election next year, Kano State Governor, Dr. Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso has warned that Jonathan is not qualified to contest for presidency in 2015. According to the governor, any attempt by Jonathan to run in the next poll will amount to a third term in office, which is not acceptable to most Nigerians. Kwankwaso, who spoke to journalists in Abuja, yesterday, advised President Jonathan to take urgent steps to solve the raging insecurity challenges in the North-East and stabilise the Nigerian economy and take a bow from governance in 2015, when he would have attained the eight-year maximum limit stipulated by the Nigerian Constitution. The governor argued that contrary to the President’s position that his tenure started in 2011, the true position remains that he actually started serving as Nigeria’s President in 2007 and would have completed his eight years in 2015. Describing any third term bid as a taboo, Kwankwaso pointed out that Jonathan and those urging him to run in 2015 could never justify such a move, which runs contrary to the clear provisions of the law. The governor said: “Jonathan is not qualified to contest election again in 2015 going by the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution. Third term is not acceptable to any part of Nigeria and the time limit stipulated must be respected by all Nigerians. “I am sure Nigerians will kick against a third term whether by Jonathan or by any other person in this country. Mr. President would have completed his eight years in office by 2015. He served as Vice President for two years, Acting President for two years and is doing another four years, which will terminate in 2015. “But those advising the President are pretending that his tenure started in 2011. I saw them on television the other day trying to argue in that direction, but they can never be correct. I am not a lawyer, but I know that two plus four plus six can never be eight. Kwakwaso got it all wrong! Today it is because Jonathan is not qualified. Tomorrow, he is incompetent. Next day he is clueless; day after, he must not try 3rd term, he endorsed a gentlemans agreement with and signed off his term. Finally, Jonathan failed to declare his intentions to run for a 2nd term early enough and is, therefore, disqualified. Nigerian Supreme court has clearly stated that President Jonathan is eligible to run for a second term in 2015. Kwankwaso is losing it so badly. Nigerians voted for Yar Adua in 2007. Yar Adua died in 2010 and Jonathan took over from him. I know from 2010 to 2015 is five years and not 8 years. Kwankwaso is no longer telling Jonathan not to contest not on the terms of their one term agreement but on the excuse that he has spent some 8 years in power. If we are to reason along Kwankwa line, it means Atiku should stop eying the presidency as he has already spent 8 years as vice president. Becoming an acting President for two years was not Jonathans term or mandate; he was acting on behalf of his Predecessor the late President Yaradua. Jonathan was not elected on his two years acting term by the Nigerian populace. Mr. President was only elected once in 2011. It is not Jonathan`s fault that those that designed our constitution never envisated the death of a sitting president. Jonathan has every right to contest the 2015 general elections it is the duty of Nigerians to either accept or reject him. Paffcomm paffcomm
