Kwanzaa is a celebration created as a way to help African Americans reconnect with their African cultural and historical heritage. At BAJI, we believe in strengthening the connection among people of African descent. Kwanzaa is a way to cultivate that spirit. In celebration of Kwanzaas 7 principles, we will be inviting you to join BAJI in giving and supporting our efforts for racial, social and economic justice for all. The name Kwanzaa comes from the Swahili phrase matunda ya kwanza, meaning first fruits of the harvest. The first day of Kwanzaa honors the principle of Umoja (Unity): To strive for and to maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.
