@Kwaragovt Reveals Plans to Construct Truck Terminals in Kwara The Kwara State government is undertaking plans to institute a committee to review the framework for the construction of truck terminal for transport unions in the state. Members of the committee would be drawn from the state and various transport unions including National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigerian (RTEAN) among others. The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, made this known in Ilorin on Wednesday at the presentation of peugeot cars to the 24 branch chairmen of the Kwara council of NURTW. Identifying the NURTW as a key player in the informal sector of the nations economy, Gov. Ahmed disclosed that the government would soon distribute additional 50 buses and 50 taxi-cabs to various transport organisations in the state at interest free price. He said his administration was committed to empowering transport unions because, according to him, members of the NURTW had been supportive of governments programmes and policies. Gov. Ahmed, who announced a donation of N5Million to the ongoing guest house project of the state council of the union, urged members of the union to sustain peace and harmony that exists in the state. The National President of the NUTRW, Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin, described the presentation of cars as first of its kind in the annals of the union in the state. Yasin, who was represented by his deputy, Ambassador Adegboyega Tomori, however called for upgrade of motor parks in the state to meet international standard and applauded the government for touching life of NURTW members positively. The state council chairman of the union, Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore, highlighted some of his achievement since he assumed office few years ago and called on the state government to continue to support the union. He also urged the state government to nominate the National President of the union for National Merit Award over his contribution to the state councils of the union and across the country.
