L;RGB (300:90:90:90) of NGC 3372, the Eta Carina Nebula in the Southern Hemisphere. Contains the most massive star in the sky, Eta Carinae. It is 125 times the mass of the sun, and is believed to be on the cusp of a spectacular supernova in the relatively near future (a million years give or take). There are only a dozen stars in the Milky Way even as close to as bright as Eta Carinae. Closeup version not munged by Facebook: astrobin/full/114320/0/ Upper Right: View -> Full Resolution.
