L&T TO CONSTRUCT RS 1,293 CRORE SAMBALPUR - ROURKELA ROAD Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday finalised the tendering process awarding the ambitious 163 km long international standard road project from Sambalpur to Rourkela worth Rs 1,292.56 crore to infrastructure major L&T. The contract got the nod by the High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) headed by the Chief Minister. Earlier, the road project to be implemented in PPP mode was accorded the clearance by the HLCA in October, 2012. In the international tender, L& T was found to be eligible to get the award among the 14 applications. According to official sources, the proposed four lane road project has been awarded to L&T under the Design, Built, Finance, Operate and Handover (DBFOH) basis for 22 years. The L&T company has been asked to undertake the construction work of the road which runs through the important industrial belt comprising Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Rajgangpur and Rourkela by November next. The four lane international standard road would be constructed with the latest road technology, sources said. The L&T would collect toll tax for 19 years and hand over the road to the Works Department as per the terms and condition and the toll tax would be determined as per the Odisha Toll Policy. As many as three toll gates would be set up for collection of toll tax from the motor vehicles. The road would have four over bridges and two railway over bridges along with under pass and cattle pass facilities. Sources said that while the Union Government would provide Rs 258.15 crore out of the Viable Gap Funding, the Odisha Government would provide Rs 206.79 crore as its share, which include the worth of land to be handed over for the road. source - Mantu Rout Rourkela TIPS
