LA VICTORIA TAQUERIA --- BROAD STREET, Lake Charles This is ranked the 6th best resturant in LC by Yelp. It is in an old gas station on Broad St. You park out where the pumps were. The kitchen is in the part where the oil changes happened. You sit where the counter and BS were going on. It is the most authentic Mexican food in Lake Charles. It has NO / NADA / KEIN / atmosphere and is run by 5 sisters from Zacatecas. I bring my own tea because Mexicans like sodas. They hand make the corn & flour tortillas. This is a Gordita made with corn -- they hand pat, cook, and split and fill it with anything from pecadillo, fajita, tongue, ground meat w/ potatoes, to cactus leaves (nopalos) . Their tamales are the best I have ever had and remind me of the ones in Mexico but with meat. One lady makes them for Tuesday & Wednesday only, and Menudo on Saturday only. They open early and close early. It is inhabited by Mexicans, Police, Doctors, downtown office people, local street people and one old white guy. Mr. Mike they call him. A fair price for good food. No bowl of chips, music, margaritas, etc. The green sauce is mean and the red is the mild one. Trust me on that one. They take a lot of go orders and have a window. MK
