LA state law (R.S. 3:2472) requires any adopted pet to be sterilized (FIXED) within three months of the adoption if the pet is at least six months of old. If you are adopting out unaltered pets you need to follow up and make sure the pet gets spayed/neutered by calling the vet or having the adopter fax or email a copy of their vet bill. If they dont comply contact your local animal control and have them call. Im not sure how enforceable the law is but just having AC call may be enough to spur someone into taking care of the obligation.
