LABOURING WITH THE GRACE OF GOD by Pastor Areogun O. 1 CORINTHIANS 15:9-10 The paradox of the Christian life is that your life will give two pictures to men, depending on what side they are looking at. On one side, people will see you labouring as if there’s no grace, as if there’s no God factor. Anybody who wants to write your story from that side will point attention to your effort and labour. Paul said “I labour more than they all (i.e. all the other apostles)” He wrote 13 out of the 27 books of New Testament, he planted more churches than the other apostles, fasted and prayed night and day. He did so many things, and he could really say “I laboured more than they all,…” The error of life is to promote human labour alone because no matter how much you labour, there will be another human being labouring exactly the same way but is not getting the same result, he’s doing everything you are doing but somehow the result is not the same. This is because of the other side of the equation: the grace side. The grace side is also God’s side of the equation. You look at this side and you see only grace. So the man himself depending on the level of his understanding can look at his life in two directions. He can look at his life from the direction of grace and say “grace, grace, amazing grace. Without the grace of God I can do nothing.” Thank God for His grace. It’s all His grace and that’s 100 percent true but if you only depend on God’s grace, your work will not find expression. In the same vein, if you look in the direction of work and claimed you really laboured and denied the grace of God, the labour will also not work. Therefore, beloved of God, labour well under the grace of God you have received. This is the New Testament position. Prayer: Father, help me to maximize the resource of Your grace; that I will not receive Your grace in vain. Please forgive me for times when I claimed success without acknowledging Your grace in Jesus’ name, amen.
