LADIES !!!!! I have to address something and I really want all the ladies to take this advice to heart. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT be afraid of healthy carbs! By healthy carbs I mean brown rice, sweet potatoes, oats, rice cakes, quinoa, black beans, lentils etc! After speaking to my very best friend this morning about her competition prep and learning her so called coach IFBB PRO is recommending her to cut her carbs to 90 a day at 12 WEEKS OUT! So, what happens when her body hits a plateau at 90 carbs in 2 weeks? Is her coach going to cut her carbs even further? What happens when at 10 weeks out her body is functioning on purely muscle because her brain and body have nutritional deficits, slowing down her metabolism even further putting her overall health at risk? How can she get back on track for her competition once her metabolism is stalled and refuses to shed an ounce? Ive tried this so called low carb diet years ago before I was introduced to the fitness industry and let me tell you, I was around 28 percent body fat, no muscle, no energy and miserable. MY beef with that is what this Coach would say about my friends brain function. For example, do you know your body needs a 120 carbs a day minimal JUST for brain function?! By restricting carbs you will end up throwing your body into starvation mode, kill brain cells, lose muscle and eventually it will be almost impossible to burn fat aka metabolic damage. I am adding a picture of myself at my last competition. My nutritionist, Kim Porterfield at IEM had me eating around 120-140 carbs A DAY and I was able to carb cycle a bit to get down to 9% body fat the healthy way! Please ladies, understand carbs are not the enemy. Bad carbs are the enemy! If you give the body the nutrition it needs results WILL come! Its a shame the fitness industry regulations arent exactly phenomenal and these so called trainers take clients health to such high risks. Please be wise and do your research before hurting your precious body. End of rant!!
