LAHORE: Despite all high claims of government officials, education still remaining under distrust as more than 1500 teaching and non-teaching staff of Education Wing of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) forced to live hand to mouth owing to non-payment of their salaries since last two months. According to the reports, hundreds of teaching and non-teaching staff of five educational institutions of the ETPB including Ayesha Siddiqa Degree College, Railway Station Lahore, Nawaz Sharif High School, Railway Station, Trust Model Public High School, Maulana Ahmad Ali Road, Ravi Road Lahore, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Higher Secondary Girls School and Dr Mateen Fatima Higher Secondary School, Shahdara have not been given their last month salary. “This teaching and non-teaching staff had been promised four times by the last federal government for their regularization but they had not been given status of permanent so far,” said the sources, adding that the former chairman of ETPB Syed Asif Hashmi told the employees that they had been regularized but later the secretary ETPB has cancelled the merger in ETPB and they were told that there were some hindrance and they would be given their permanent status soon. But, they added, these were just hollow slogans. The sources claimed that the staff was being punished because most of them were hired by former ETPB Chairman. And due to personal misunderstandings of secretary PMEIF and ETPB. The teachers on Friday staged a protest demonstration at Mall Road and Lahore Press Club for nonpayment of their salaries and expected illegal termination by the EPT Board. All the teachers are highly qualified. They are working for five years. Now they started to terminate teaching and non teaching staff. According to different sources they are manipulating by terminating in short parts. According to sources on Monday 300 letters will be posted on the addresses of teaching and non teaching staff and they will receive termination letters on Tuesday. So that action should be taken slowly and gradually. On the other hand they promised to regularize all the employees in front of media. Now most of the teachers are overage, they can’t apply anywhere. They were holding placards inscribed with their demands for justice with them. They urged the federal government and chief justice of Pakistan to release their salaries.
