LAKEWOOD — A four-year-old girl suffered scratches on her arm, leg, and lip after being attacked by a fox on Saturday afternoon, police said. Police responded to the scene and found the fox under the resident’s deck, Lt. Steve Allaire of the Lakewood Police said. The responding officer was forced to fire his weapon when the fox tried to attack him and a Lakewood Animal Control officer An unidentified man ran over and kicked the fox away from the child, to avoid the fox from further injuring the girl, Allaire said. The fox died at the scene, but was taken away to be tested for rabies, Allaire said. More information is expected to be available Monday.
