LANCASTER — Anchor Hocking’s parent company has given employees a 60-day notice of a potential permanent shutdown of its Lancaster plant, the company disclosed Friday in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. EveryWare Global has not made a final decision, but if it does decide to shut down, it would be in a 14-day period starting Aug. 11. The company is required by law to provide a 60-day notice if it intends to lay off employees as part of a plant closure. The plant idled many of its 1,140 employees in Lancaster and another reported 400 at its plant in Monaca, Pennsylvania, on May 15 amid financial instability. That same instability prompted the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, notice, the company said in the SEC filing. “Whether the company will permanently close the facilities depends on whether the company is able to resolve its existing liquidity issues, including through amending its existing credit agreements,” the company wrote in the filing. “If the company determines it is necessary to permanently close any of the facilities, it is expected that this would occur during a 14-day period beginning on Aug. 11.” In the company’s release May 15, it said it lost more than $38 million in the first quarter of 2014, after turning a small profit in the same quarter of 2013. At that point, it said it expected to reopen both plants in three to four weeks. On May 31, the company announced it was partially reopening the Pennsylvania plant but hadn’t determined when to open the Lancaster plant. The shutdown affected the manufacturing portion of the business, though the distribution portion remained open. Some employees, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that some distribution employees also were laid off, however. The company has not released a number of employees idled by the shutdown. The WARN notice issued Friday includes the manufacturing and distribution facilities in Lancaster, the manufacturing center in Pennsylvania and a distribution center in Savannah, Georgia.
