LAND OF MILK AND MONEY! In just about six months, the price of milk powder in the country rose by almost 18 percent or Nu 62 more. And it is going to get even dearer, with another hike expected next month. The hike is attributed to the increase in milk procurement price, due to high fodder cost in India. Bhutan imports a bulk of skimmed milk powder and milk products from India. Among skimmed milk powder available in the market, most Bhutanese families prefer Everyday milk powder. Last August, a packet of Everyday weighing 800g cost Nu 280, which shot to Nu 302 last year-end, and Nu 318 last month. In about a week, it went up to Nu 342. Besides the price hike, the market has also seen a drop in supply of milk powder and milk products.
