LANDIS+GYR TO DELIVER RECORD- BREAKING METER ORDER TO INDIA Who: Landis+Gyr and the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) In January, WBSEDCL, an Indian utility looking to modernize its aging infrastructure, selected Landis+Gyr to deliver 1.5 million smart meters, believed to be the single largest electric meter order in India. The project is expected to be concluded by November 2013. The new devices, which use wireless radios to transmit data about electricity consumption, are touted as a critical component of a more intelligent electrical grid. With smart meters, consumers could track the price of electricity in real time, and utilities could lay off tens of thousands of meter readers. BUT smart meters are a dangerous idea. They are an invasion to privacy and even cause serious damages to health.
