LANGUAGE Language is the human capacity for acquiring and using complex systems of communication. It is unique in the sense that it is learned and not biologically inherited. The Cognitive ability to communicate, the skill to speak made us the masters of the world. The language of humans was not the 1st to be developed. All animals have some means of communication through the use of chemicals, gestures, various sounds, etc. The vocal ability of humans is not exclusive to Sapiens, it is advanced compared to other vocal animals. Elephants & Whales communicate by sound waves, many kilometers away. Green monkeys have distinct voices to communicate dangers, etc. Many other animals have some kind of capacities to communicate. Sapiene’ language is complex in the way it can transmit prodigious amounts of information with limited sounds using words. It is more descriptive. It evolved as a means of sharing information about the world. Gossipping is an important tool in social interaction, even though it has negative connotation in present day society, enabling cooperation among members. Even apes are known to indulge in gossipping. Most of gossipping is usually focussed on others’ wrongdoings. Without the ability to speak and communicate with each other, cooperation would not have been possible among humans. Therefore, the development of the cognitive skill in the use of language is an important step in the development of Sapiens.
