LAPWAI, ID - An autopsy has confirmed that the body discovered June 21st near a van belonging to a 27-year-old Kamiah man is that of Eldon EJ Farris and it is believed that he died as a result of a crash. The 2002 Ford van was found at the bottom of a 540-foot cliff on Woodland Road Grade about seven miles from Kamiah by individuals searching for car parts. Farris had been missing since he left the Kamiah Hotel Bar early on the morning of June 7th, officials say. Because of the unusual circumstances of Farris’ disappearance, the FBI was notified and took over the investigation. “Farris’ wallet and driver’s license were also found at the scene but that alone cannot be used to identify the individual without medical confirmation,” according to Nez Perce Tribal Police Chief David Rogers. After a delay with dental records, the medical examiner was able to positively identify the body and noted that the physical injuries to the skeletal structure were consistent with a vehicle accident of this nature, a press release states. At this time the Idaho State Police have stepped in to assist Nez Perce Tribal Police with an accident investigation and reconstruction effort. “There are several elements of this case that we are seeking answers to, but for now it is looking more like a motor vehicle accident,” Rogers says.
