LAS VEGAS FIRE & RESCUE MEDIA RELEASE LAS VEGAS FIRE & RESCUE DATE/TIME: 010515/1815PST RELEASE: 15-004 Fire Damages Eastside Home One Person Was Taken To The Hospital To Be Checked Out One person was taken to the hospital to be checked out following a fire in his eastside Las Vegas home late Monday morning. A pet dog died in the blaze. Three people are displaced after the fire. Fire dispatchers received several calls at 11:29 a.m. that a house was on fire at 1708 Pacific Street (Oakey/Eastern). One caller stated that someone may be trapped inside the burning home. When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, heavy flames and smoke were coming out from under an attached carport on a one story wood frame house. Firefighters were also told that everyone had gotten out of the house and was safe, although one may need medical attention. Firefighters had the fire under control in ten minutes. The fire gutted a good portion of the interior of the home as well as destroying the carport. The house next door had minor roof damage. Damage was estimated at $75,000. Fire investigators determined the fire started in a laundry room under the carport. One of the occupants of the house told investigators that just prior to the fire he smelled something burning. He ran around the outside the house to find the source and found the laundry room with heavy flames. The man ran inside the house and carried his elderly dad from the inside of the house, which was filling with smoke, outside to safety. Because the elderly man has a medical condition, he was taken to the hospital to be checked out as a precaution. He was later released. Fire investigators ruled the fire accidental. They determined the fire started inside the laundry room, which is under the carport, but could not pinpoint an exact cause.
