LAST update to the you cant do that saga ... Its over! I dont know who won, but we wont be hearing any more about complaints on the property. After the original complaint letter was sent, I sent 2 clarification letters, one a Freedom of Information Request to get copies of all the complaints. Her reply came back today. There was one complaint in 5 years, and it had no information with it, except a filing number and date! If you care to be humored, read the complaint letter below, followed by the reply. I copied the text here to protect the innocent. Complaint letter (11/20/14) ... Our office has received a complaint of junk and miscellaneous debris scattered about your property located at [...] We have sent our inspector to the site and he has taken a photo to document the condition of the property. At this time we are giving you 30 days to get the property cleaned up and maintained so it is pleasing to the public eye. Failure to get the property cleaned up will result in our having a Show Cause hearing regarding the matter. If you have any questions [...] I sent 2 letters to request the following from the office: 1) What detailed work needs to be completed?, 2) What county ordinance am I in violation of?, 3) What are all the complaints? Reply letter from the office (12/1/14, received today 12/9/14) ... Our office is in receipt of your recent letters. We have copied everything in our files as of today and we will be mailing them to you. The details of each complaint will be in the notes. We do not take names of the people making the complaints nor do we note who takes the complaint. The better each individual home owner keeps and maintains their property the better off all of our residence will be. By asking individual home owners to take pride in their property and periodically clean and maintain their property make our county a better community to live in while also increasing the value of the real estate in this area. This is a good thing for all residents. We understand that you are zoned agricultural and we know we cannot make you clean the property up. We were in hopes that you would be a good neighbor and get at least the front part of the property presentable. We would like to apologize if we have offended you in any way. If you further [...] Notes ... There was only one written complaint with no information attached. There was a copy of a single photo, showing the weeds and grass along the concreted driveway, currently setting in a water-filled ditch. Note that the county regulations are online, and after reading them, discovered that land zoned agricultural is immune to most other regulations in the county, including building permits and mowing. Game over.
