LATE OPENER - Brian Humphrey is on duty at the LAFD EPI-Center, and will remain at your service until 7:00 AM PST Thursday January 1. ----------------------------- It has been a busy morning behind the scenes at LAFD, where our staff is busy with last minute preparations for special events and the expected citywide workload of New Years Eve, including sizable gatherings that could amount to tens of thousands amassing among these City of Los Angeles locations: - Grand Park - The Palladium - Park Plaza Hotel - Union Station - Club Nokia - USC Galen Center Long before dawn tomorrow, a large contingent of LAFD responders will be in place beyond our borders to support the neighboring City of Pasadena, for both the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game that follows. ----------------------------- Speaking of public gatherings... This week is the anniversary of some very deadly fires across the globe, that have an important factor in common. - December 30, 1903, a fire at Chicagos Iroquois Theater killed 602. - December 30, 2004, a nightclub fire in Buenos Aires, Argentina took the lives of 188. - December 31, 1986 mid-afternoon fire at the Dupont Plaza Hotel and Casino in San Juan, Puerto Rico, resulted in 97 fatalities. ...if you have yet to guess, each of these deadly fires (which also caused injury to scores of survivors), occurred in a *place of public assemblage* during an often festive and carefree time of year. With this thought in mind, the men and women of LAFD ask you to keep safety in mind as you gather with others to celebrate the new year. Heres a list of life-saving tips: bit.ly/PublicAssemblageSafety It has been a profound honor to serve you this past year. Lets get to and through 2015 safely! :) -Brian Humphrey bit.ly/BrianLAFD
