LAWN BOWLS 2014 GLASGOW COMMONWEALTH GAMES TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT The Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) and Bowls Australia are set to announce the 17-strong contingent entrusted with the nation’s hopes of success at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games tomorrow, Tuesday March 25 at noon. Bowls is the second sport to name its team to compete at the Games and make the journey to the Northern Hemisphere for the July 23 – August 3 showpiece. ACGA Chief Executive Officer Perry Crosswhite, Bowls Australia Chief Executive Officer Neil Dalrymple and National Coach Steve Glasson will announce the team in Melbourne, and will be streamed live free of charge via bowlsaustralia.au. The team will feature 10 representatives in the open category - five male and five female - in addition to two vision impaired bowlers, accompanied by their directors, and three bowlers with a disability representatives competing in the para-sport competition. The inclusion of the para-sport component at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games means 10 gold medals will be up for grabs at the sport’s pinnacle event - eight in the open category disciplines and two para-sport medals. Bowls is a core sport of the Commonwealth Games, having been included in the sporting programme since the inaugural Games in 1930, with the exception of 1966 in Kingston, Jamaica. The 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games bowls event will be held over nine of the eleven days of competition, from July 24 to August 1.
