LEADERSHIP INSIGHTS FROM THE BOOK OF GENESIS TEXT Genesis 13: 8, 9 NIV So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers… Let’s part company…” INSIGHT Some conflicts need a geographical solution. You will operate better when there is a distance between you and the other party. Sometimes unity is strengthened by mutual separation especially when working together gets to the point of sacrificing unity and productivity. There may be conditions, this side of heaven, that do not allow certain people to operate in the same geographical space. And part of maturity is to recognize and accept that reality. Paul and Barnabas mutually separated and the work grew much more than if they had continued working together. Similarly, a man who gets married must of necessity leave his father and mother and develop his own family somewhere else. So, separation is not always negative. It is a good idea when it is used to improve relationships.
