LEADERSHIP NEWSPAPER Nasarawa APGA Guber Candidate Denies Stepping Down For Maku Donatus Nadi — Dec 28, 2014 The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Mr. Matthew Umbugaku has denied allegations that he has stepped down for his kinsman and former minister of information, Mr. Labaran Maku. Umbugaku who made his position known in an address to the press in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, said his candidature is not a decoy for Mr. Maku in the event the loses out on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket as speculated. He said APGA has issued him return certificate having fulfilled all the necessary requirements to fly its flag in the forthcoming general elections in 2015. “I have been duly issued certificate of return by my party after fulfilling all conditions and we as a party are ready to compromise on our integrity by indulging in ignoble acts of shortchanging loyal members of the party for any short term benefit” he said. The businesses mogul who responded angrily to the question of his stepping down for Maku queried if he doesn’t possess the credentials to govern the state. “let me make it clear that I am as qualified and experienced in any form of administration to lead the state like any other candidate in other political parties”. After losing the just concluded primaries of the PDP, Mr. Maku, who is the only aspirant to protest the outcome of the exercise has been associated with desperate moves to secure the gubernatorial tickets of Labour Party (LP) and APGA.
