LEARN FROM EVIL UGANDA MAID THE maid video that has gone viral on WhatsApp - of a woman who beats up a baby, stands on her and smashes her to the floor - may look extreme but it is a glimpse of things that could happen when parents leave their toddlers in the care of domestic workers whose background they do not know. Because of many parents’ busy lifestyles, hiring a new maid is usually done in haste as work demands give them little time to vet the people they are trusting their children’s life with. This is unfortunate and such parents must change the way they recruit domestic workers. Parents must remember that they are employers very much like the ones they are working for. When they were employed, careful consideration was given to their character and conduct and their CVs were examined while they had to go through interviews before they were considered for the job. The job was not given to the first person that came knocking and even after they landed the job, they had to go through a probation period where their abilities were monitored. When recruiting a domestic worker, the same processes must be endured by the employee-to-be as they are about to take care of important lives, usually in their formative years. Doctors have established that the period from birth to two years forms a child’s most important years as this is when they develop all their confidence and other important attributes that they will need later in the rest of their lives. So you must be careful what forms the basis of their day to day life during these developmental years. Children that are abused – be it verbally or physically like the case in the video of the cruel Ugandan maid – will lack confidence all their lives and be called dull, slow or other derogatory names. It is not only maids that subject toddlers to such confidence-sapping abuse but real parents can also fail to be patient with their own children forcing them to abuse the innocent souls. Every parent must make it their mandate to KNOW the character of the person they leave their child with, if they have to go to work. Children must grow up in a confident environment where they are free to express themselves and once parents suspect that their maids cannot offer such an environment, they must replace them with more able personnel. The parents that planted the video that led to the exposure of the evil Ugandan maid must have fired her the moment they realized she is mean and suspected her of being capable of abusing their baby. Parents should take no chances with their children and must make time to spend with their children so that they know their character traits and can tell when their children are abused. They say life is too short to learn from your own mistakes and all the parents must learn from the Ugandan baby’s ordeal. Do not take chances with your children’s lives.
