LEARNED RAPPERS 1. Ludacris Christopher ‘Ludacris’ Bridgesis universally appreciated for his consistency in the rap game. Unlike many rappers who come and go, Ludacris has been there for over a decade. He attended GA State University where he majored in Music Management. After graduating, he founded ‘Disturbing the Peace’ records (DTP), where he recorded his first album in 2000. Ludacris has gone on to be a successful award winning rapper and actor. He is currently filming the movie ‘The Fast and the Furious 6’. 2. Lil Wayne Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. aka Lil Wayne, attended the University of Houston where he majored in Political Science. Wayne is signed to Young Money Cash Money Brothers (YMCMB) records in which he co-owns with his father. He mentored other famous rappers such as Nicki Minaj and Tyga, both of whom are signed under his label. Wayne ranks at number 10 in the Forbes Richest Rappers List with a net worth of $95 million. 3. Common Lonnie Rashid Lyn commonly known as Common attended Florida A&M University where he majored in Business Administration. Common has concentrated on conscious hip hop and acting. He has been successful at both, staring in award winning movies and recording a few highly acclaimed albums. 4. 2 Chainz Tauheed ‘2 Chainz’ Epps, ranked the second best rapper of 2012 by MTV, attended Alabama State University on a Basketball Scholarship after finishing second best in his class in high school. He studied Music. He later transferred to Virginia State University in his sophomore year where he graduated with honors. 5. David Banner Davidis aka Mr. Missisippi is widely respected for his outstanding fashion sense. ‘Missisippi’ is a ghetto word for respectable. He attended Southern University in Louisiana where he majored in Business Administration. During his time at the university, he served as the president of the Student Government Association. He later attended the University of Maryland where he acquired a Masters degree in education. Apart from his music, Banner is a renowned civil rights activist. 6. J.Cole Jermaine Cole (J. Cole) began his college education at North Carolina before moving to St. John’ University in New York where he graduated with top honors. He was later signed to Jay Z’s recording label Rock Nation. Cole admitted that he chose the New York School with an intention of meeting Jay Z someday. His dreams did come true. 7. Talib Kweli Talib Kweli attended New York University where he majored in Theatre Arts. He comes from a well-educated family. Both parents are professors. His brother also teaches in Colombia Uni. Despite Kweli’s music being hardcore, it’s deep, inspiring, non-explicit and non-violent. This has made him garner wide respect in the hip hop scene. 8. P. Diddy Sean Combs, commonly known as P. Diddy or Puff Daddy attended Howard University, a historically black college where he majored in Music. Combs is currently the richest rapper alive with a net worth of over $550 million. After graduation, he briefly served as an intern at Uptown Records before starting Bad Boy Entertainment. Combs also owns the Sean clothing line and a dozen marketing companies.
