LEAST I FORGET Another morn is here Least I forget, We will yet again Morose, Stream into the square To celebrate independence Look !the land bleeds of filth Look! our faces cloaked in lack We will smile For our pretentious freedom From white man s chains The land is green But, Our faces are wilted, Old, Forlorn Our palms are cracked Like palm nuts from labour The land is green We must celebrate freedom Yet, Many sleep with empty stomachs And Welcome dawn with fear, Insecurity and death We must celebrate for we are freed From Whitmans chains But, How come we still have chains Upon us now? Maybe they are beads Given to us by our elite leaders We cant call it chains But, Bangles So we must celebrate This era of bangles We are 54 We must celebrate for we Have 54 bangles Of lack, poverty, insecurity, Fear and death Adorning our wrist Quite a feather to our Decayed caps We must celebrate For they dont think We have reasons not to Only if they feed fat Least I forget We must celebrate 54...
