LEE COUNTY COMMISSION CANDIDATE SAWYER SMITH, REPRESENTATIVE HEATHER FITZENHAGEN, LEE COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR LARRY HART, FORT MYERS MAYOR RANDY HENDERSON, ATTORNEY JOE COLEMAN, AND FORT MYERS FIRE DEPARTMENT CHIEF KEN DOBSON TO TAKE THE ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE -- Today, August 19th 4:00 PM -- Fort Myers, FL – County Commission Candidate Sawyer Smith, State Representative Heather Fitzenhagen, Lee County Tax Collector Larry Hart, Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson, Attorney Joe Coleman, and Fort Myers Fire Department Chief Ken Dobson have been challenged to help fight ALS with the Ice Bucket Challenge. Amyothrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It is a serious and lethal disease that can strike anyone, regardless of background. Mr. Smith, Representative Fitzenhagen, Mr. Hart, Mayor Henderson, Mr. Coleman, and Chief Dobson seek to help raise awareness of this disease and have accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge. They have also donated to the ALS Association to help fund research, care services and education, to give hope and help to those facing the disease.
