LEE KOK SENG: RIP Another footballing legend bites the dust, ending an era of superlative Singapore regional success in the 1950s and 60s. I just spoke to (former FIFA referee Lee Kok Leong) and he says elder brother, Kok Seng, going on 82, a father of four, was hospitalised for a month with intensive medical complications. Kok Seng was a real hero in many sense of the word, as an outstanding police officer and footballer, which inspired me to do likewise, said Kok Leong. Lee Kok Seng, nicknamed The Horse, has been acclaimed as the greatest post-war centre-half and captain of all captains: Singapore skipper for 11 years from the 1950s to 60s. He was the last to hold the Malaya Cup in 1965 before the Lions won it 12 years later in 1977. Senior police officer Kok Seng also skippered Malaysia and competed in the 1954 and 1958 Asian Games. His younger brother, Kok Leong, was also a senior police officer and FIFA referee. The weekend wake arrangements are at 792B Choa Chu Kang Drive and the body leaves Monday afternoon for church service (3.30pm) and cremation at Mandai (4.00pm). Lets salute a genuine Singapore footballing icon of the 1950s and 1960s, whose media tributes are attached here: RIP Lee Kok Seng.
