LEES SUMMIT POLICE RESPOND TO DROWNING AT LOCAL LAKE Lee’s Summit, MO – On June 8th, 2013 at approximately 3:50 p.m. officers with the Lee’s Summit Police Department responded to the 200 block of NW Aspen on the report of a possible drowning. When officers arrived they were told that a 16 year old male was attempting to swim across the cove when he slipped beneath the water. Officers were unable to attempt a rescue effort and crews were brought to the scene to attempt a recovery. The area where the youths were swimming was a cove located in Lakewood subdivision on a private lake. At approximately 6:00 p.m., the deceased was located by members of the LS Underwater Rescue and Recovery Unit. The deceased was identified as 16 year old Emanuel Palmer of Raytown, MO. He attended Raytown High School. The Lee’s Summit Police Department was assisted by members of the LS Underwater Recovery Unit, the LS Fire Department and the Missouri State Water Patrol as well as investigators from the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
