LEGAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOR NORTH EAST YOUTH.. Q:1. Whether police can summon a lady/girl to the police station? Answer:- Absolutely no. No woman can be arrested between sunset and sunrise unless there are very special reasons for doing so. Even then, special permission must be given in writing by a Magistrate, after the magistrate is satisfied that there are reasons for allowing this. A woman police officer has to be present with the police officer who is making the arrest. The women has to be kept in a separate lock-up in the police station and any examination, body search, etc has to be done by a woman officer or lady doctor. No person can be asked to come to the police station for any purpose if she is a female witness. The Police officer is required to examine her at the place where she ordinarily resides. If she is an accused she cannot be brought to the police station after sun set except with the written permission of a Magistrate. Even at the police station, she will be dealt with by a woman police officer and will be kept separately from male accused persons. Q:2. Whether I have to make some payment for reporting of a case? Answer :- No payment is required to be given for any police services except police verifications done by Special Branch and Districts and licenses issued by Licensing Branch and Districts.
