LEOMISTER CHAMPION Leominsters Own Weekly Newspaper Leominster residents part of Wreaths Across America 2015-01-09 / Neighborhoods Print Leominster residents part of Wreaths Across America WINCHENDON — About 100 people gathered at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon the morning of Friday, Dec. 12. They were there to lay wreaths on all of the graves as part of the nationwide effort called Wreaths Across America. It is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to honoring and thanking veterans for their service and sacrifice. What started as a wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery in 1992 is now being done across the country. Among the volunteers in Winchendon was a handful of people from Leominster. They included school district employee Sandra Cook and, for the third time, plumbing students from the Leominster High School Center for Technical Education Innovation and instructor Michael Carey, who’s in the Air Force Reserve. Coming for the first time was retired Leominster firefighter Kevin Sideleau. His father, Robert, was a sergeant in the Marine Corps and served in World War II and Korea; he passed away in March and is buried ther Retired Leominster firefighter Kevin Sideleau places a wreath on the grave of his father, Robert, a sergeant in the Marine Corps who served in World War II and Korea. Also a Leominster High school student places wreath on a Veterans grave.
