LEONARD FEIGENBLATT AND EVA HEINEMANN REVIEW MICHAEL FEINSTEINS VALENTINE CONCERT AT CARNEGIE HALL Featuring Laura Osnes, Julian Ovenden, and Bucky Pizzarelli Tedd Firth-Piano On Friday February 14, Leonard Feigenblatt and Eva Heinemann went to Carnegie Hall to see the wonderful Michael Feinstein in concert. Michael sang many songs from the American songbook including songs by George and Ira Gershwin, Leslie Bricusse, Frank Loesser, Lionel Bart and Stephen Sondheim. While we were being serenaded we are also got funny, touching, I didn’t know that anecdotes. His first act guest was Drama Desk Award winner and Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes. Having recently left the cast of Cinderella she dueted with Michael on “Do I Love You Because Your Wonderful” from the show and sang a glorious solo of Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein’s “All the Things You Are.” In Act 2 Julian Ovenden was his special guest. The British star made his Broadway debut in the revival of Butley but left the off Broadway run of Death Takes a Holiday early due to illness. He was in great voice this evening as he sang “They Say It’s Wonderful” and “I Got Lost in His Arms” from Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun. He also sang a duet with Michael of their own version of “You’re Nothing Without Me” from Cy Coleman’s and David Zippel’s City of Angels . Laura Osnes came back for the finale and joined both Michael and Julian to sing “Our Love is Here to Stay.” Spending Valentine’s Day at Carnegie Hall with Michael Feinstein and his guest artists Laura Osnes and Julian Ovenden, was the perfect romantic evening for couples as well as us single folk. He couldn’t have picked two better performers to share the stage with him. They are sweeter than eye candy and more heavenly than angel voices. Michael Feinstien who sang Fascinatin Rhythm is the perfect way to describe him. Because it fascinates me how he arranges the music, sings the songs as musical monologues with such emotive nuances and at the same time playing on the piano such intricate notes that his fingers are flying. Speaking of flying fingers Bucky Pizzarelli playing “Fly Me to the Moon on his guitar almost brought the house down. American Classics sung and played by a classic group of people made this the best Valentines Day ever.
