LESSON #17 Perhaps I have always comfortably equated Indian mealtimes with fantastic, flavorful, family-style abundance (and only that) but no more - my eyes have been opened to an amazing alternative. New Delhis INDIAN ACCENT, served me a meal like never, ever before - I have been blown away. We chose the tasting menu as it allowed us to sample the wide variety on offer. Here goes...I began with a Curry-leaf Collins cocktail, followed by blue cheese stuffed naan, palaak pesto rolls, aubergine and goat cheese mousse, mango-spiced pork ribs, masala-laced cream of mushroom soup, tandoori duck cones and much more...while the tastes were certainly not traditional, the Indian accent was proudly evident. The chef, Manish Mehrotra, along with his staff (I must mention Ms. Palki and Mr. Vivek) warmly greeted and attended to us as though we were seated at their own dining table (I now, want to be a permanent fixture). The team perfectly presented and paired select wines with each of our courses and informatively explained the origin and inspiration for the recipes. To those who recommended that I visit this, one of the globes top 100 restaurants, I thank you. My worldview of the Indian kitchen and my own table has cracked open and forever changed. This creative and elevated showcasing of Indian cuisine, is a lesson in assumption and a match for any fine dining establishment, both in and outside of India!
