LESSON IN HINDSIGHT – How long will the Paula Deen chronicles continue? Who can tell? It will likely last as long as it keeps making the Politically Correct feel good about themselves. I wonder what Paula Deen thinks now about the brutal honesty she exuded in her deposition? Is there a lesson to be learned in hindsight? Well, it’s too late for Paula. The Genie cannot be put back into the bottle! But what lesson(s) can you and I derive from her experience? I think we should be preparing ourselves for the possibility of facing a similar situation in the future. The deeper Political Correctness sinks its cancerous roots into our culture, the greater will be the dictionary of racist, bigoted and offensive terms for which an offender can be libel. So if you ever find yourself required to give a disposition under oath over some accusation for which the plaintiff aims to prove libel, NEVER volunteer information that’s libelous. Here’s what Paula might have said. Questioner: “Ms. Deen, have you ever used a racist term or racist slang to demean the Black Race?” Deen: “I am NOT a racist, sir!” Questioner: “That does NOT answer my question!” Deen: “There’s NOT a racist bone in my body!” Questioner: “Have you ever used the ‘N’ word to describe any member of the Black Race?” Deen: “I am NOT, and NEVER have been, a racist, sir!” You see where this going. Let them treat you as a hostile witness. But NEVER admit to doing anything that’s self-incriminatory! One can remain truthful during this process without telling a lie or pleading the Fifth. We may be years away from this degree of cultural rot. But it never hurts to prepare the mind for what might lie ahead. I have a sneaky feeling Paula Deen learned this lesson in hindsight.
