LESSON : The presence of the "Bodhi Tree" near by the Mosque or the Mosque near the Bodhi Tree was cited as a reason by extremists to prevent Muslims renovating the old Mosque..Muslims obliged and built the New Mosque which was demolished by same extremists. The damage caused by the extremists to their own faith and vast majority of peace loving Sinhala Budhist people and the country -specially in post war Sri Lanaka- in the eyes of International community is immeasurable and much more miserable than the damage caused to the Mosque. Had the extremists approached the issue with Highest authorities or even the Mahasanga or law enforcement authorities in a proactive manner communal disharmony should have been be averted even before the construction of the New Mosque. We appeal to the President and the Law enforcement authorities prevent extremists from taking Law unto their hands rioting and vandalizing in the name of a sacred faith which does not permit racism, hatred or hostility with the followers of another faith. The issues pertaining to the all 24 Mosques that became under threat could be resolved peacefully if brought to the notice of the Highest authorities in a much more civilized manner rather than dragging the country decades backward with regard to the human values. Last But not the least all the above places of worship that came under organised threat of extremists existed among the peace-loving Sinhala Budhist people for decades with no single record of causing even a minor harm to the values of co-existence between both communities. It is only organized external elements with ulterior motives with vested interests resorted to violent measures to create ethnic disharmony in Sri Lanka to satisfy their local and global masters. We Muslims of Sri Lanka even though we belong to a faith followed by 2 billion people in world-over will remain Sri Lankans defending the unity,integrity and sovereignty of our mother land and will never fall victims to external or internal evil forces marketing political or geopolitical conspiracies at the cost of noble values of patriotism. We salute the vast majority of Sinhala Budhist people, Mahasanga, intellectuals and civil and political leaderships for their voice against injustice as well as Colombo Muslims and neighboring Sinhales Budhists for exercising religious tolerance and patience at this crucial hour of our history.
