LESSONS Learned after a week of this: #1. Learn the breed, read Warren Reuschel behavior post. #2. This is search, not rescue. This took me a few days. I started last Thursday when Izzy almost got hit at Marriotsville and Old Frederick. Rushed there, like I would save her. Rushing from sighting to sighting is bad. Going and doing follow up is good. Find out if other Pyrs in neighborhood, yellow labs. Rule things out. #3. Dont volunteer if you wont deliver. No try, but do. Already had ppl let us down. :( #4. Talk this up. Share her page. Recruit new volunteers. Think what u are good at that can help. I dont know u, u know your strengths, I dont. Are u good looking at maps, internet things, calling? PM me. You dont have to be local to help. #5. Humor is good. It isnt disrespectful to Izzy. I think she would appreciate some comic relief. Like my male Pyr story. #6. On the ground work is emotional. From now on, pairs would be great, food and drink breaks mandatory. #7. If u can give 1 hour, great! More, we love that! Any bit of time where you follow through is good. #8. You dont have to be a dog person to help. I have no dogs (yet). Im cat, chicken, and turtle person. #9. Dont be afraid to ask for help. HELP!!!!!! We need volunteers to do a few routes over the weekend. I need ppl at EC farmers market on Saturday and Sykesville on Sunday. Hand out flyers, talk it up. #10. Do you realize how beautiful this is? Takes a village, no!!!! We got ppl in 4 counties- Carroll, HoCo, MoCo, Baltimore. Marylanders ROCK!!!!
