LESSOS RESIDENTS! GOOD EVENING! I felt its important to let you know all that transpired today and why we took the stand as a community that we did and what we need to do to stop unfortunate acts of this as well as heal any wound caused. Sammy AKA Tinga was charged in Kapsabet law courts on two counts; 1) Possession of 18 rolls of bhang 2) Misuse of media by slandering someone’s name His legal team was led by Advocate Kirui. He was released on cash bail of 100k and surety of similar amount. Upon release, Mr Tinga was mopped by several media houses who had been camping since morning to interview him in view of the sensitivity and circumstances of his arrest and detention. WHY WERE WE INVOLVED IN THIS CASE SO INTENTLY? Tinga did an extra ordinary post in FB that went beyond the respect of the persons he mentioned who are respectable elders in our society. We all didn’t support the content thereof as it degraded their names to some extent and more so that we uphold great dignity of our elders. The subsequent events that followed however drew our keen attention. Police officers led by Body guard of our MP led a night raid, roughed up Mr Tinga and implanted rolls of Bhang to the young man-we found this to be very barbaric and it surely didn’t add up as that would only happen in a banana republic. Timing was poorly executed, as the same day the post was done,at night the raid was done . Any sane person would ask him/herself that if such a thing would happen to him what would stop it from happening to you and me in an event one crosses the path of our MP? This had to be stopped for the posterity to know that freedom of expression is enshrine in our constitution and that any infringement to the same can only be dealt through courts of law not nyayoism models. The manner in which the police officers acted when the team went to have Tinga released on Sunday on cash bail raised more questions than answers as the OCS kept making calls and admitting that the case is one that can be bailed out but he had orders from above not to release Tinga. We asked which powers were this that contravenes the supreme law of land-provisions of the constitution that guarantees such rights to the accused and our micro lenses pointed to the obvious person who was pulling strings as much as he could. Obviously AKK cyber goons despite abusing everone did what they new best, giving anticipatory comments that when reviewed showed organized plan to have Tinga in bars as much it would take. Well in summary Tinga is OUT! WAY FORWARD> I have taken an opportunity to appeal for sobriety and hope to speak to Tinga to go make amends with the said elders as this would be proper. Being neighbors there is more to benefit on mutual relationship rather than being enemies. Am sure the said elders are, as I have been informed, more than willing to engage in peaceful co-existence. Which I humbly salute them as that reflect who they are! Am keen to support the leadership that’s in place as through that, we can achieve development but dictatorial and cowardly acts that may crop in our society or leadership bent to infrinch anybody’s freedom because of any once financial capacity or coz someone is in power; we will viciously nip in the bud as the power of the people is a flood that no one mighty being can stand.
