LET US CONTINUE TO GIVE PRESIDENT KOROMA ALL OUR SUPPORT, LOVE, ENCOURAGEMENT AND BLESSINGS AS WE FIGHT THIS GOOD FIGHT TO CONQUER EBOLA I like the attitude of many Sierra Leoneans since this Ebola outbreak . YESTERDAY, in church, I saw the graveness and sincerity on the faces of members of my congregation as we prayed fervently to God for his deliverance of our nation from this Ebola scourge. People prayed like the fate of the nation depended on their supplication to God. While we were praying , just a stone throw away, the Sierra Leone Community of New Jersey were having an important meeting to strategize how to deliver relief materials to the nation. All over the Continental USA, Sierra Leoneans were either meeting in halls or in churches and mosques to pray for the nation. As a people, we know how to be united to fight a common enemy or cause. This is the spirit we must all continue to show because SIERRA LEONE belongs to us all and the future of the nation rests on our shoulders. In like manner, I want to admonish all Sierra Leoneans once again to continue giving President Koroma all their support, love, encouragement and blessings as he leads the nation in this fight against Ebola. It is very easy to criticize , especially when the shoes are not on your feet. Arm-chair critics do not know that uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. We have to understand the vicissitudes of leadership to know that we must tailor our criticisms of our leaders in a dispassionate manner, devoid of malice, bias , mischief and the lust to gain political capital out of an unfortunate circumstance. PRESIDENT ERNEST KOROMA , since he came to power in 2007, has proved himself to be a man of action. He has proved amply that he is not a lazy leader who allows the grass to grow under his feet. He is a go-getter, a man always on the move to do something to better the lot of Sierra Leoneans. Those who are grateful know how many socio-economic developments President Koroma has brought to our nation. Those of us who are closer to him know that he desires to do more and wants to hear or know nothing except the development of our nation. His abiding passion is to make Sierra Leone a better place for us, our children and generations yet to come. Despite President Koromas determination, we have to know that leadership entails enormous challenges. There are many problems and the international community needs to do better . One needs to be inside to know that one does not run to the bank with every promise from the international community. Many international organizations and countries are doing a great job, but much more needs to be done. Pledges , like promises, are made to be broken. We must also not forget that the country that President Koroma rules today was virtually burnt down to earth by the rebels. Our health care system was completely destroyed by the war. We will continue to need international support to get us back on our feet. We have done a lot to rebuilt our health care delivery system . We were just in the rebuilding phase when this Ebola outbreak started. Given the challenges we face presently, We have to be reasonable to not expect 100 % perfection in the speed and execution of our response to Ebola .Nor must we gauge this governments response to what is expected of countries with more developed and advanced health care systems that had not been destroyed by war. Secondly, Ebola is an international scourge and it is beyond the scope of any country or government alone to defeat it. We cannot fight this battle alone. It is reasonable to expect the international community to step up the plate. Since Ebola is an international problem and Sierra Leone is a member of the international community, we have a right to expect much more from the international community . We want to be treated equally like other nations. After all, Sierra Leone is making significant contributions to the promotion and maintenance of international peace and security. I work in the UN and so nobody needs to tell me anything to the contrary. Sierra Leone is contributing immensely to the world economic order. We are a small nation but we have spread OUR WINGS in all committees in the UN to help make this world a better place. Therefore, when we have such a huge problem with international ramifications, the international community must rise to the occasion . Dear Sierra Leoneans, we do not understand in full what is really going on. Therefore, let us put politics aside and unite as a people and fight together to defeat this Ebola. Let us put aside all our political differences, grudges, frustration and chicanery and support President Ernest Bai Koroma . Let us respect our ambassadors and all those that God has put over us and let us follow all procedures and protocols and the due process if we desire public action . The voice of the people needs to be heard in a clear, unequivocal , but peaceful manner; however, due process and protocols must be followed in the facilitation of the process. This is the time to prove our patriotism. We must support our President, our government and our country . Let us appreciate what the President and Government have done so far. Against the advice of his trusted lieutenants, President Koroma visited the Ebola epicentres in Kenema and Kailahun . He has also declared a State of Health Emergency through which he has implemented tough measures to stop the spread of Ebola. Through his appeal to the international world, goodwill nations, like China, have started pouring in medicines and medical supplies. Hopefully, more assistance is expected from other countries . Arm-chair criticisms are therefore not the way to go. This is a battle we have to win, but we cannot do it except we fight as a united people. Let us give PRESIDENT ERNEST KOROMA and our nation full support . Let us put all politics and unpatriotism away. We cannot disintegrate at this time. Unite we stand, divided we fall. We must form a united front and speak the same language. May God help us defeat Ebola .
