LETTER TO MY SON Dear Robert, You are not happy that I do not - TopicsExpress

LETTER TO MY SON Dear Robert, You are not happy that I do not lavish money on you. I know that you are convinced that i am wicked because i insist on spartan frugality and discipline. According to your mum, you should live in luxury instead of the current situation where I insist that you walk to your nearby school and do house chores as well. My son, its important that you learn to be a self sufficient man and learn it early too. I do not hate you, on the contrary, it is my love for you that makes me push you hard! Impact is not made by consumption and soft living, it is made by effort and social conscience. I know your mum tells you that rather than spend on you, I engage in community works! True, but man is no island! Is it right for us to wallow in luxury while the rest of the people live in lack? I dont know about your mum, but i am proud of my work! I have made my share of mistakes, but I acknowledge the fact that I have learnt from those mistakes! I am proud of the fact that I make impact on the community despite my lean finances! I am certainly not rich in dollars but my heart is full of wealth! I am proud that from my income I have funded community enhancing projects such as water boreholes, agro processing for cooperatives, loans to women etc! Your mum wants all that money spent on you but I disagree. Too much money spoils the kids but many africans dont know that! My son, I hope you will understand in due time that I am doing the right thing when I wake you at 5 am instead of letting you laze in bed! When you grow and mature you will understand, because of this frugal upbringing, you will be much stronger than those who were pampered. Anyway, son, I will let you sleep a while longer today because it is your birthday! From Dad
