Have someone pretend to be “the people of Beth-Shemesh.” Everyone else draw, describe or present the gifts you would have offered instead. Which gifts are declared the best? Questions: 1. What happened to Dagon (the “half man, half fish” god) the first night in the presence of the ark of the true God? What happened the second night? To make this story more interesting, you might want to search online to see what Dagon looked like. 2. What did the cities of Ashdod, Gath and Ekron do with the ark? 3. How did the Philistines know they were suffering because of God’s discipline and not random chance? 4. According to Psalm 115, how are false gods similar to followers of false gods? Discuss how God (and followers of God) are opposite of this. Are you a follower of God? How can you tell?
