LEWIS NEW YORK HES WORTH A TLC HAPPY FOREVER HOME PLEASE. Urgent Part 2 - Urgent Death Row Dogs with Cricket RockaStellar and 41 others SUPER URGENT 01/02/15 Manhattan Center My name is LEWIS. My Animal ID # is A1023981. I am a male br brindle and white cane corso mix. The shelter thinks I am about 3 YEARS old. I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 12/24/2014 from NY 11207, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY. MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT 12/31/2014 Exam Type CAGE EXAM - Medical Rating is 3 C - MAJOR CONDITIONS , Behavior Rating is NH ONLY, Weight 83.2 LBS. showing signs of kennel cough coughing heard nasal discharge present as per 0915 start on doxycycline 100mg PO SID for 10 days 12/24/2014 PET PROFILE MEMO 12/24/14 19:57 Lewis was brought to AC&C by the NYPD> Counselor did not handle Lewis as he was hard barking and growling in the police car. He was able to removed from the car with a leash and place him inside a kennel. 12/30/2014 WEB MEMO A volunteer writes: Well helloooo handsome! From his adorably floppy ears to the tip of his wagging tail stump, Lewis is a big dog connoisseurs dream come true, a sensitive yet friendly hunk wholl turn heads and win hearts wherever he goes. Hes happy to see me when I stop by his den and even happier that Ive come bearing treats, mouthing a biscuit from my hand as softly as possible before letting me leash him with no fuss at all. Lewis regal looks are matched by a noble bearing and some very gentlemanly manners and hes seemingly house trained, sits on request, comes when called and is nicely responsive to my voice - from my end of the rope I might as well be walking a Corgi! The only time Lewis pulls is when he spots a potential doggie friend (and then only if theyre mid-size or larger, small dogs are almost ignored) but hell listen to my command to stay or allow me to walk him past at a distance, looking back longingly over his shoulder as his tail stump wags a gentle goodbye to his pal. Back in the yard hes glad for some free time and jogs about the pen drool-sniffing over each and every inch of ground before coming back to the bench for a full body massage, heavy on behind-the-ear and butt scratches please! Lewis is chill with wearing a bandanna but he loathes being tethered and while he does sit for treats and pose nicely once I get out the camera, its only a few minutes before hes jumping and shouting to let me know modeling is not his cup of tea and could we please stop the shoot now? Not everyone is a born performer and though he aced the dog-to-dog and resource sharing portions of his behavior evaluation, Lewis was not keen on being stared at and tried to tell his assessor it was time to back off the only way he knew how, by fronting like the tough guy he really isnt at heart. Patient, loving and experienced hands are what this 83 pound sweetie needs to guide him and for that lucky person who appreciates the Cane Corso temperament in all its beautiful complexity, a lifetime of loyalty and affection await! 12/27/2014 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - NH ONLY Exam Type BEHAVIOR Lewis walks calmly on leash. He does his best to look large and intimidating by holding his head high, his ears up and forward. He positions himself over his forelegs so that hes ready to lunge. Lewis stares directly at the assessor; he shows his teeth by wrinkling his muzzle and retracting his lips vertically to display his front teeth and growls during the look item of the assessment. We couldnt do the handling part of the assessment. We decided to skip the handling item for safety reason. Lewis did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was not interested in toys or rawhide. Lewis was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Lewis during the behavior assessment we were unable to handle him due to his behavior. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
