LEXINGTON, KY (November 8, 2014) – Each year, Air Force ROTC cadets from Detachment 290 at the University of Kentucky gather on a Saturday near Veterans’ Day to honor the sacrifices made by our nation’s defenders of freedom with a POW/MIA remembrance run. This year, cadets from the University of Louisville and University of Cincinnati joined Det 290 on this memorial run on November 8th. Cadets carried the U.S. and POW/MIA flags in front of the formation of runners. The formation departed Barker Hall on UK’s campus at 6:30 AM and follow Old Frankfort Pike along the 29 mile route to the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in Frankfort. At the conclusion of the run, Det 290’s Honor Guard performed a brief memorial ceremony to honor our brothers and sisters in arms who gave their all to preserve the freedoms we so dearly value. The 290th Cadet Wing would like to thank all of the student organizations, community groups and family members that helped set up water stations along the run route as well as the unit from the Kentucky State Police that lead the runners along the way.
