LGBTQ Mormons will always have a place in the church until there is a change in the bishopric. It is important to never hand-wave away how precarious the support and defense of LGBTQ people is in this organization. I have yet to see a sitting bishop, stake president or relief society president leave their position in the defense of one of us. It will happen one day, but it hasnt happened yet. My father, Carl McGrath did resign his membership after my own excommunication. He had been silenced the year before for speaking out in my support--that was 27 years ago if I count correctly.
