LI, NY – KILL SHELTER! Max the Lab surrendered for euth, WENT FOR TRAINING - AMAZING dog, needs placement! This dog NEEDS a home to go to, and he DESERVES a home to go to. Max was surrendered for euthanasia because his owners said he had food and garbage aggression. After sitting at the shelter, depressed in his kennel, we were able to send him to an amazing off site trainer for further evaluation and training. What we found out about Max after a week at the trainer is that he is therapy dog material, that he is amazing with other dogs, and that food and garbage aggression were not his problem, but that his owners never set boundaries. Max has some separation anxiety which manifested itself with him going through the garbage, but in fact, Max doesnt WANT to eat garbage, what he wants, and needs is structure! The owners told us that Max only got into the garbage when they werent home or if they were sleeping, and they never tried crating him. Max is an exceptional dog, EXCEPTIONAL. And he is being returned from training in a few days, but still doesnt have placement. It will break our hearts to have to put this incredible boy back in a cage, and we are praying that someone finally steps up for him and gives him the home he deserves. Please consider this boy, he is a clear case of a dog who was never managed correctly, and definitely should not be put to sleep because of it.
