LIBERAL CANDIDATE CALLS ON AGRICULTURE MINISTER TO MEET WITH LOCAL DAIRY FARMERS Liberal Candidate for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis says the Minister for Agriculture should use the Government’s only agricultural visit to Gilmore this year to meet with local dairy farmers and explain why Labor have ignored the dairy industry in Gilmore. “Despite this electorate being one of the most important agricultural areas in Southern NSW, today’s visit by the Minister for Agriculture is the first time this year that Labor have bothered to visit our region to talk about farming, fishing or dairying issues,” Mrs Sudmalis said. “I challenge Mr Fitzgibbon to meet with any one of our local dairy farmers, as they will gladly tell him how they have fared under the last 6 years of Labor. “One of our most important local industries is struggling and it is a tragedy that this is the first time this year that farmers in Gilmore have seen or heard their Agriculture Minister. “Since my preselection last year, I have twice brought Shadow Minister for Agriculture, John Cobb to the region to meet with our local dairy farmers and speak with them about how to make milk production cheaper and more sustainable. “In contrast, the Labor Candidate for Gilmore has been missing in action when it comes to one of our most important local industries, agriculture. “Under his Government, the local fishing industry, the local dairy industry, and local farmers of all kinds from across the region have suffered from higher costs, lower Government support and an avalanche of red and green tape. “If elected, I’ll be a strong voice for local farmers, and will work to lower electricity prices, cut agricultural red and green tape, as well as strengthen the ACCC to finally get some action on milk prices,” Mrs Sudmalis concluded.
